I should very much like to accept the Colonial
Government's offer for appointment to Hong Kong as Air
Raid Precautions Officer, but before giving a definite
reply, I am sure you will realise that there are one or
two outstanding questions which I should like settled, or

It will be necessary for me to take a nurse for my two children age six and three. Can a free passage be granted for the nurse?
(b) Should I be retained in Hong Kong over the
period of three years, would the Colonial Government consider putting me on some pensionable basis or granting an honorarium at the expiration of my engagement?
(c) Will the Colonial Government pay for the
passage of my household furniture and motorcar?

As I am committed for a period of three years to a house, it will be impracticable for me to get rid of it before I go (owing to the extremely short notice). I am, therefore, involved in a total commitment of £300 unless I can get rid of the house, or unless the landlord is agree to cancel the lease. I naturally will endeavou to obtain cancellation, but failing this, would the Colonial Government reimburse me with the sum of £300?
As this is a Government appointment, may I be considered as seconded from the Home Office for a period of three years or longer, the period of secondment to lapse after the expiratio of three years if I am re-engaged for service with the Colonial Government?
